Purpose
The main philosophy of CELAS – ADCC is to provide a day of culturally and appropriated activities for elderly Spanish speaking citizens who are isolated by language barriers.
Target Audience
All Spanish speaking people over the age of 65 are eligible to participate.

- A very early stage of dementia
Service Description
CELAS - Adult Day Care Centres (ADCCs) through the Department of Health and Ageing and the (HACC) program, can offers to senior Spanish speaking citizens the opportunity to socialise and take part in a variety of recreational activities and outings in a culturally appropriate manner, with people and staff who speak their own language..
CELAS, is currently managing three Adult Day Care Centres – Planned Activity Groups (PAG), Horizonte ADCC situated at Cooinda Centre in Springvale, Footscray ADCC at Angliss Senior Citizen Centre in Footscray and Esperanza ADCC at Powlett Community Room in East Melbourne.
The planned activities (PAG) are designed in order for them to remain attached to their community, their language customs and traditions, remain independent, autonomous and to prevent an early admittance to an aged care facility.
The ADCCs also provides the opportunity for elderly Spanish speaking to meet people of their own language, socially interact and provide a day of respite for their carers.
CELAS - Adult Day Care Centres can offer the following activities:
- Light Exercises
- Arts and Crafts
- Educational and Informative Sessions
- Health Promotion
- Games
- Outings
Transport to and from the clients home to the Adult Day Care Centres is offered. However, this is dependent on the location of the client’s residence. There is a minimal cost charged per session attended.
An assessment is a necessary part of participation in the Centres. Assessments will ensure that the services offered are adequate for meeting the needs of the participant.
